Summer Jazz Academy
June 20 – 25, 2021
Applicable Ages: 12-18. Residential or day camp. Co-ed.
Cost: $600 for residential; $350 for day camp
MMA’s Summer Jazz Academy provides an intensive, performance-based experience for highly motivated young musicians (instrumentalists and singers) currently in middle school and high school. This rigorous, one-week course will broaden campers’ understanding of jazz and help each grow as an improviser and musician. Students will perform in both small and large ensembles with fellow young musicians who share an appreciation for this American art form. The week culminates in a concert for the wider community at the end of the week.
Jazz Academy is ideally suited for those wishing to enhance their improvisational skills in the jazz tradition. Students in this program will work from scored music and chord charts. Those without prior knowledge of reading music are welcome to apply; however, we highly encourage campers to familiarize themselves with music notation prior to arrival at camp.
“Thanks a lot to all (staff) members of MMA. My son had a GREAT experience!” — Eduardo Riddle, father of a camper.
