Summer Camp FAQ

If you have any questions or would like to reach camp officials for any reason, please call (573) 581-1776, ext. 521 or 327, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. After business hours and on Saturdays and Sundays, please call (573) 581-1776 ext. 429.

Campers will be housed in MMA residence halls. Two students will be housed in each room. 

Campers are supervised at all times by camp leaders and counselors. Most of our camp leaders are full-time faculty and staff at MMA (and many are former military officers), and camp counselors are often MMA alumni who are ready to lead new campers through the fun experiences they had on campus when they were younger.

Very little – MMA summer camps keep kids moving and active! Camp schedules are packed with fun activities, all supervised, to keep your camper safe, engaged and having a great time.

After an application has been accepted, campers will receive confirmation and a list of items to bring. For the most part, they need to bring everyday items (snacks, toiletries, clothing, etc.).

The amount of money depends on the needs of the student. Snacks and items at the Canteen are available for purchase, and students occasionally order out for pizza in the evening. Summer Academy students may bring money for weekend field trips, such as a trip to an amusement park or local festival.

Please note that all money for spending will need to be given to accounts receivable at the time of check in. Campers will be issued their money when they wish to spend it at the appropriate times and events. 

While we recommend limiting any time spent away from camp, so campers may enjoy the full experience, they may leave camp to participate in activities, provided they sign out and back in on return.  Please notify us about planned activities during check-in.

Summer Academy, Leadership Camp and Confidence Camp have required daily uniforms. The total costs of camp includes the uniform package. In addition to this uniform package, a detailed list of items to be brought from home will be sent to each family upon their camper's acceptance into the program. Yes, the staff nurse does monitor students taking meds. Medicines, the prescribed dosage and time to be taken should be turned in at the time of registration the first day of camp.

Cell phones may be brought to camp but only used during limited, specified times. Cell phones will be collected and held by Camp Staff. Cadets attending Leadership and Summer Academy Camps, will get their cell phones for an hour on the weekend to make calls home. Limiting cell phone access helps campers focus on their activities and/or studies and also helps avoid homesickness. Cadets do best when they stay focused, busy and having fun with their new friends. Family members may call MMA directly in an emergency to reach their son or daughter, and campers will have periodic opportunities to call home.

Students may apply for camp up to 10 days prior to that camp. However, we have a limited amount of rooms available, and camp availability is limited to first come, first served.

MMA is located in Mexico, Missouri (click here to view Google map) — approximately 2 hours from St. Louis, MO; 2.5 hours from Kansas City, MO; and 45 minutes from Columbia, MO. All three of these cities offer airports for easy access to MMA, and we will work with your family to provide or suggest transportation options from the airport to campus.
