2021 Commencement Schedule

Spring Sports Banquet

Tuesday, May 18 at 6:30 PM in Barnard Hall (Livestreamed)

High school cadets participating in spring sports will be honored at the spring banquet. Middle school cadets enjoyed a separate celebration for their spring athletics. 

Wallace Fry Speech Competition

Wednesday, May 19 at 7:00 PM (MMA’s YouTube Channel)

The Wallace Fry Speech Competition is an annual public speaking competition which hones and highlights cadets’ oratory skills. Cadets are judged by a panel of MMA instructors, and a winner is selected based on their delivery and demonstration of rhetorical devices learned during English Language Arts lessons. Senior Banquet

Friday, May 21 at 6:00 PM in Barnard Hall (Livestreamed)

At the banquet, cadets will hear from Academy leadership and the MMA Alumni Association, watch a senior video, make toasts, receive awards, and more. All senior cadets are required to attend the Senior Banquet. Seniors unable to attend commencement will receive their diplomas. This event is limited to members of the Class of 2021 and select faculty and staff.

Commencement Ceremony

Saturday, May 22 at 9:30 AM in the Gymtorium (Livestreamed)

The commencement ceremony will begin with a procession of the graduates and the presentation of colors by the Color Guard. The senior class will present their class gift, and awards and diplomas will be presented. Closing commencement, cadets will sing "Old MMA" and the benediction will be delivered. Graduates will exit to Front Campus for Final Formation. This event is closed to the public; attendance is limited to family members who have RSVP'd for the event (limited to 4 per graduate). Final Formation

Saturday, May 22 at 10:45 AM on Front Campus (Livestreamed, weather permitting)

Final Formation is held in the front of MMA's campus as one last nod to the graduating class. Cadets assemble in a military review fashion, and under the direction of cadet leadership, seniors raise their sabers and plunge them into the ground, placing their hats on top of the saber. This event is closed to the public; attendance is limited to family members who have RSVP'd for the event (limited to 4 per graduate).

Commencement Speaker Sergeant Major Steven McDavid ’97 Keynote Speech

"Always display courage when danger or fear presents itself, it will make you successful, but achieve renown in your lives through the fortitude that is now imprinted upon you after your time at MMA. You will endure personal and professional hardships in your lifetime. Whatever hardships you experienced at MMA are learning points. Military Officer

A decorated U.S. Army Special Forces veteran of the Global War on Terrorism will return to his alma mater Saturday, May 22 to address the class of 2021 at Missouri Military Academy’s 132nd commencement.

Sergeant Major Steven McDavid, the J3 Operations Directorate Senior Enlisted Leader at Special Operations Command Central, will speak at the 9:30 a.m. event in the MMA Gymnatorium.
