2020 Spring Family Weekend and Maroon & Gold Gala

NOTE: Schedule is subject to change. 

Friday, March 27, 2020 

Parents are invited to attend each class. Teachers will have copies of their syllabus for visitors.
 
1st Period class in Barnard Hall
8:05 to 8:50 a.m.    
 
2nd Period class in Barnard Hall
8:55 to 9:40 a.m.
 
Seminar in Barnard Hall
9:45 to 10:05 a.m. Will be held in 4th period classrooms.
Cadets meet for 40-minute Seminar four times per week.  During Seminar, cadets fulfill Silent Sustained Reading as part of reading and writing curriculum, complete missing assignments, and work on ACT/SAT preparation and college and career guidance interviews.
 
3rd Period class in Barnard Hall
10:10 to 10:55 a.m.
 
4th Period class in Barnard Hall
11:00 to 11:45 a.m.  
 
Cadet/Parent Lunch in Dining Hall
11:50 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
 
Parent-Teacher Conferences in Barnard Hall
1:00 to 5:00 p.m. 
Parent-teacher conference times must be scheduled in advance online. The online sign-up form will be made available two weeks prior to Spring Family Weekend. Please note: Cadets will not attend parent-teacher conferences, but instead will participate in mandatory preparation and practice with the commandant for Spring Family Weekend events. (Cadets on the baseball team who will be at South Shelby High School for the MMA vs. South Shelby baseball game are excluded from the mandatory participation.) 
 
Parents Committee Meeting in Dining Hall
2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
All parents are part of the MMA Parents Committee. Committee leaders will share specific updates detailing the group’s support for cadets, the Academy and each other. Parents will learn how they can more actively and impactfully engage within the MMA community. General Geraci and/or Colonel Grabowski will also participate in the meeting to respond to parents’ questions or concerns.
 
Parent-Residential Faculty Officer (RFO) Conferences in Barracks
3:00 to 6:00 p.m. 
Conference times must be scheduled in advance online. The online sign-up form will be made available two weeks prior to Spring Family Weekend.
 
Cadet Check out 
4:00 to 6:00 p.m. 
Cadets may check out with their parents for dinner, but must return for Corps Formation. Overnights are not permitted on Friday. 
 
Cadet/Parent Dinner in Barracks (Optional)
5:00 to 5:40 p.m.
Enjoy pizza with your cadet in the barracks. Cadets should inform RFOs if their family members will attend.
 
Epple Fine Arts Event in Barnard Hall 
7:30 to 9:00 p.m. 
Set up like an art gallery, the Epple Fine Arts Events gives parents the opportunity to see what their cadets have created throughout the year and to enjoy performances by the band and choir. Attendance is optional for cadets.

Admissions Open House
8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Know a friend or family members whose son could benefit from MMA? Invite them to our Spring Family Weekend open house. Your referral might save you $2,000 on your own cadet’s tuition. Contact admissions@missourimilitaryacademy.org for more information. The open house will begin at 8:30 in Memorial Chapel, followed by campus tour, lunch and more.
 
Cadet Practice with Commandant in Alain M. Garcia Fieldhouse 
9:15 to 10:30 a.m. 
Attendance is mandatory for all cadets. 
 
Flower Ceremony and Corps Review & Award Presentation on Colonels Field 
10:30 to 11:45 a.m. 
At the Flower Pinning Ceremony, mothers, grandmothers, and other honored women in cadets’ lives step forward to pin red carnations to the cadets’ lapels. Weather permitting, this event will be held outside on Colonels Field. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in Alain M. Garcia Fieldhouse. After the Flower Pinning Ceremony and Corps Review, cadets may check out with their parents for the afternoon but must return by 4 p.m. for mandatory attendance in Corps Formation. 
 
Cadet Check out
12 p.m.
Cadets attending Maroon & Gold Gala must return by 5 p.m. Overnights approved for cadets not attending Maroon & Gold.
 
Residence Halls Open to Parents for Room Visits
12 to 1:30 p.m.

Maroon & Gold Gala in Centennial Gymtorium
5:30 to 10:00 p.m. 
MMA’s premiere event and biggest fundraiser of the year, the Maroon & Gold Gala supports scholarships, athletics and academic programs. The evening begins with cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. (browse and bid on silent auction items!), followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Throughout the evening, enjoy entertainment by MMA cadet musicians. Advance reservations are required. No ticket refunds will be given for cancellations less than one week from the event. Cadets may check out with their parents for overnight following Maroon & Gold.
