There is typically a time for cadets to check and respond to email early in the morning; between 3:30 p.m. and evening mess, depending on their athletics schedule; and from 9 p.m. until lights out at 10 p.m.

Cadets in Good Standing must have:

• A minimum GPA of 2.0
• A “C” grade or higher in deportment
• No outstanding tours or on X-tours
• Not on ISS, OSS or honor probation
• Making progress on community service hours
• Actively and eagerly participating in all scheduled physical fitness events as well as assigned athletics
• No failing grade

Cadets who fail to meet “Good Standing” requirements will not be allowed on general leave, denied promotion opportunities and may lose cell phone privileges.

The birthday party plans outlined below allow us to recognize and celebrate birthdays, as well as give parents a chance to support their sons.

Celebration with the corps

Each month, cadets who have their birthday that month will be recognized during a special celebration with the corps. This birthday celebration will be in the dining hall with the entire corps of cadets. Ice cream provided by Sage Dining will be served to all cadets, and the corps will sing "Happy Birthday."

Private party for those cadets celebrating birthdays in a given month

In addition, a private pizza party will be held for those cadets who have a birthday during the given month. The Parents Committee will discuss with the parents of those cadets whose birthdays occur in that month to coordinate the purchase of pizza, soda, etc. for the party. Payments will also be organized via the Parents Committee. Only cadets who have birthdays within that month will attend. 

How you can celebrate your cadet on his actual birthday

On your cadet's ACTUAL birthdate, you may send your cadet a singular pizza, small cake, etc. This is not a full party, but rather your special birthday recognition for your cadet. Parents should make their own arrangements for delivery.

No more than $50 cash weekly. We recommend using a reloadable gift card or debit card for spending. 

Open weekends are family weekends, meaning you are welcome to check your cadet out for the weekend. Open weekends are usually four-day weekends, and they are published on the school calendar. 

Please note: Event weekends (such as Homecoming, Fall Family Weekend, Valentine Weekend, Mother's Day Weekend, Spring Family Weekend, etc.) are not open weekends. The cadet check-out schedule will be posted online with the event schedule. 

You can track your cadet's academic progress by accessing MySchool. You can find a link to MySchool in the Parents section of the MMA website.

To log in, click the "Forgot login or First time logging in?" button in the bottom right corner. Then, enter your email address in the first box, and check the "username" and "password" boxes to receive your login information via email. The e-mail containing the selected information will be sent from missourimilitaryacademy@myschoolapp.com. Please be sure to add this e-mail address to your address book before submitting this request. If you still don't see the email, check your spam folder. 

Once you have your login information, return to the login screen and enter that information. 

Once in the account, click on your cadet’s name in the upper left to continue. A screen will then appear for you to look at his progress grades, schedule or assignments.

Your son may email you, and he may also Skype you during the week. However, most phone calls are made on Sunday evenings from Residential Faculty phones between the times of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

An 8-9 week period of adjustment. It establishes the baseline standards and provides each new cadet with the basic information and skills that he will need to be successful at MMA. This training phase fosters esprit-de-corps, motivation, pride and serves as a rite of passage into the Corps of Cadets. 

New cadet training is not intended to be a stressful environment, but a period where seasoned cadet leaders, through patience and example, assimilate new cadets into the daily functions and traditions of the Corps. The Maroon Phase will end when a cadet demonstrates proficiency in understanding the Cadet Handbook and can successfully complete the Crucible.

Of note: 

• No authorized general leave or cell phone privileges during this phase.
• New Cadets may Zoom, Skype or send personal emails using issued laptops.

An MMA tradition that recognizes and celebrates the arrival of all new cadets. The ceremony involves all new cadets reciting the MMA Resolution Pledge. 

This MMA tradition is a series of physical and mental obstacles intended to challenge cadets as leaders and as a team. It is a capstone event all recruits must undertake, and it is key to introducing new cadets to MMA's spirit and community. By the end, they will know: 

• If they set their mind to something, they can accomplish anything. 
• At MMA, they have a brotherhood that will help and encourage them through the challenges they will face together. 
• MMA will push them to their fullest potential. It won't always be easy, but it will always be rewarding. 

New cadets are recognized for passing all training requirements and the Crucible. Families of new cadets participate by pinning the coveted hat brass onto their cadet's hat as a symbol of their membership in the Corps of Cadets. This ceremony takes place during Fall Family Weekend and Valentine Weekend (for mid-year enrolled cadets). 

When packages arrive for cadets, information is often cut off on the address label. To help ensure that your package arrives timely to your cadet, please make sure only his name is in the "to" field on the package. You do not need to spell out "Missouri Military Academy." Instead, please list it as "MMA" or leave it off completely. The cadet's name, street address, city, state and zip code are most important.

Your cadet can always reach out to his CLA, coach or faculty members for assistance. When possible, encourage him to seek out his own solutions. While MMA faculty and staff are always here to help when needed, it is important that cadets feel empowered to solve their own problems, too. 

If you feel he has done what he needs to and the problem persists, then please contact the appropriate party — CLA, coach, faculty member, commandant or dean. 

For those items your cadet is bringing from home, please click here to review the Clothing Marking Procedure. Marking your cadet's clothing and personal items appropriately will ensure that all items, when laundered, are returned to the appropriate cadet. 

The high standards we hold cadets to help instill positive character, leadership, personal responsibility and accountability. Among the guidelines of these high standards at Missouri Military Academy, deportment grades characterize a cadet’s behavior, self-discipline, respect for authority, adherence to established standards, respect and consideration of others, character development and the ability to lead by example.

At the end of each marking period, each cadet is issued a deportment letter grade which reflects his conduct for the period. This grade will appear as a class grade within MySchool. This grade reflects his ability to function properly within a structured environment, manage his time, avoid high-risk behavior, and accept accountability for his actions.

Deportment grades do not affect academic GPA. However, they do affect a cadet’s standing, and a cadet is in good standing for deportment if he maintains a “C” or higher. Deportment grades are considered when cadets are evaluated for MMA leadership positions or for special trips, events or activities. A cadet’s deportment grade does not remain on his transcript once he leaves the Academy, and it is only available to the cadet, his parent(s) or guardian(s), faculty, and staff.

To achieve a high deportment grade, cadets must follow the guidance outlined in the cadet handbook and uphold the Academy's core values. When a cadet fails to meet the established MMA standards, he may be issued a stick for the infraction. When that happens, he receives notification via email and has 24 hours if he wishes to appeal it.

To appeal a stick, the cadet needs to contact the faculty, staff member or cadet leader who issued the stick to discuss the infraction. If the stick is unresolved within 24 hours, the commandant performs a final review for violations issued for resident life. For any sticks issued by faculty or coaches, the academic dean or athletic director, as appropriate, reviews and decides on the merits of the appeal for those sticks. 

When a stick is approved, tours are applied. One tour equals the loss of 15 minutes of the cadet’s discretionary time. The commandant’s staff will direct cadets who need to work off their tours by assisting with tasks around campus, additional military instructions or inspections. 

Calculated once per marking period, his deportment grade is based on the number of tours accumulated for that marking period. To check his grade at the end of the marking period, please see your cadet’s profile on MySchool. Select “Report Card.” You will see “Deportment” under the Performance column. “Deportment” is listed as a class, and a grade is included for the marking period.

Instruct your cadet to actively observe the appeal process as highlighted in the Cadet Handbook. The appeal process teaches your cadet to take responsibility and to justify his conduct to Academy leaders.

 The easiest way to avoid tours is to read, understand and follow the guidance in the handbook. Cadets may also earn up to five merits per week for performing tasks and assisting CLAs, staff, faculty or coaches, as approved by the commandant. Cadets may check their tour balance within 1MMA, the intranet on campus, at any time.

Cadets must work off tours through the tour squad, completing duties assigned by the commandant. If they have outstanding tours that have not been worked off, they will not be allowed to participate in special recreational activities, the end-of-year corps field trip, Commencement or Final Formation.

You can help support your cadet at MMA by asking him and his company leadership advisor (CLA) about his deportment grade and encouraging him to maintain a good grade. As we partner with you to develop your cadet socially, academically, spiritually and physically through our 360° Education, deportment grades demonstrate his progress to help cadets stay on track and succeed.

Thank you for your partnership with the Academy. Together, we help your young man succeed and fulfill his potential.

In addition to meeting other families during family weekends (such as Fall Family Weekend, Valentine Weekend, Spring Family Weekend, etc.), you can also connect with MMA parents online via social media. 

This private group is for parents and guardians of cadets who belong to the 2023-24 MMA Corps of Cadets. Through this group, you can connect with other parents, ask questions, share tips and insight on how to best support your cadet at MMA, receive reminders about upcoming events and more. This page is managed by both the Academy and the MMA Parents Committee. Every parent with a young man in the MMA Corps of Cadets is a member of the Parents Committee.

Please note: To maintain privacy for families, only parents or guardians who are authorized emergency contacts for your cadet will be approved for group membership. Please encourage other family members to follow our main Facebook page.

Via Remind, a free text messaging app, family members and guardians of MMA cadets can now sign up to receive academy updates via push notifications on your smartphone or via text message.

When you opt in, you will receive alerts about severe weather, special events, furloughs, important news and more.

If you cadet doesn't feel well, he should sign up for a sick call in the clinic. If the clinic is not busy with medicine or if it is an emergency, your cadet will be seen right away. If it is a non-emergency, the clinic will call for cadets as soon as staff is available. 

If a cadet needs more advanced care (sutures, fractures, hospital stay, needing new medications, etc.) the clinic will contact parents for permission and follow as needed during illness.

Option #1: Pick-up medication on campus. The adult who is transporting your cadet home may retrieve the medication at the cadet clinic, in accordance with the furlough departure schedule. 

Option #2: Cadets age 18 or older transport medication. If your cadet is 18 years or older, he may retrieve his own medication at the clinic upon his departure and transport his own medications home.

Option #3: Cadets under age 18 transport medication with authorization. If your cadet is under the age of 18 years of age, he may transport medication home with your written authorization. Click here to download an authorization letter. Option #4: Mail medication home. If you would like medication sent to your home, you may pay $10.00 per flat-rate envelope to have medications sent via USPS.

Powdered supplements and medication in a gummy form are not accepted at the MMA Health Clinic. 

Please fill out the General Leave Furlough Form and provide the appointment information within the form. Then, contact the health center to notify them of any pertinent information. You can reach them via email at clinic@missourimilitaryacademy.org or by phone at 573-581-1776  ext. 641.

If it is a local appointment, MMA will provide transportation to/from the appointment. If the appointment is not local, MMA will provide transportation to the designated airport.

Access to the internet is restricted to this schedule:

• Sunday through Thursday, the network will be turned off from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next day
• On Friday and Saturday, the network will be turned off from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day

Note that the use of cellular “hot spots” is forbidden in order to prevent cadet internet access outside of MMA’s approved networks and approved internet usage schedule. 

If you provide a cell phone with a data plan to your cadet, MMA recommends adding parental controls to help monitor/restrict usage. We ask that you turn off internet access following our WiFi schedule listed previously. Various providers offer this feature. “Verizon Smart Family, ” “AT&T Secure Family App” and “T-Mobile FamilyMode” are examples.

During academic hours, cadets must be given permission by the teacher to use their laptop. No other electronic devices are allowed, including cell phones, smart watches, tablet computers, etc. The use of headphones during class time is forbidden without explicit approval from the cadet’s teacher. Additionally, during academic hours, cadets may not use instant messaging, gaming, social media and shopping/online auctions.

Here's a look at their options while they are on campus and when they leave campus to travel to athletic competitions.

On Saturdays, cadets have the opportunity to sleep in and enjoy brunch from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the dining hall. The brunch is all you can eat. On Sunday, cadets attend church services. Many of our local churches provide food, such as donuts, at their services, and then cadets eat brunch (again served from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) when they return to campus.

During brunch, one food line has lunch items and the other has breakfast items, including waffles with whipped topping and fruit or a made-to-order omelet bar. Later in the day, dinner is served. This meal is optional because many cadets will get food in town during general leave. They can also order food from off-campus for delivery.

If cadets are leaving campus for an athletic event, they will make a to-go meal to take with them on the bus. By doing so, they can pick the items they want to eat. We encourage them to select — from healthy, nutritious options — foods they like and will eat so that they are full and nourished. 

Cadets have ample food to eat on the weekends. They do need to be thoughtful about their food choices and disciplined so they eat according to the schedule and are not hungry later. We provide and encourage them to eat high-value, nutritious meals.

Yes, but only a small amount. 

From the MMA Cadet Handbook: “All food will be stored in the lockbox. Open food packages will not be stored overnight in the residential hall rooms.”

An appropriate amount of food to be stored in a cadet’s lock box would fit into a shoebox-sized plastic container. Any additional food that does not fit in his lock box will be confiscated. There are no refrigerators or microwaves in the barracks.

In the past, we have seen some of our best cadets at all grade levels get themselves in trouble over food in the barracks. This is unnecessary and preventable. Excessive food in the barracks results in the following:

• Increase in discarded or partially wrapped food items in the barracks, potentially attracting bugs and rodents.
• Arguments and conflict among cadets over food items.
• Reports and allegations of cadets stealing food from each other.
• Cadets trying to skip meals since they have food stored in their rooms.
• Use of food items to barter for contraband.
• Lack of storage space in cadet rooms with food stored inappropriately everywhere in the rooms.
• Temptation for cadets to try to sell food to other cadets for cash, which could then be used to attempt to buy contraband.
