MMA Colonels Wrestling Starts Season Undefeated

The Missouri Military Academy (MMA) Colonels wrestling team has kicked off their high school season with a 6-0 record following back-to-back dual meets on December 4 and 5.

“Our team has really come together early this year,” said MMA Head Wrestling Coach Levi Iman. “We have strong competition within our room, and they are pushing each other to improve.”

On Wednesday, December 4, the Colonels secured victories over:

  • Maplewood-Richmond Heights, 59-21
  • St. Francis Borgia, 60-18
  • Veritas, 48-33

The momentum continued Thursday, December 5, with wins against:

  • Wright City, 60-14
  • South Callaway, 60-15
  • Winfield, 54-22

“Starting the season 6-0 is a great feeling for the team,” Iman said. “We have several newer wrestlers that have stepped early to fill some varsity spots and are seeing success. With the remaining spots being filled with seasoned returners who have stepped into the role as leaders of the team, we are building on top of a strong foundation with five returning seniors.

The five returning seniors leading the Colonels this season are Cadet Marcus Miller (4-2), in his second season; Cadets Blake Krull (1-2) and Michael Pfeifer (4-2), both in their fourth seasons; and Cadets Ryan Miles (5-1) and Adam Swenson (4-2), who have been dedicated MMA wrestlers since middle school.

Three athletes remain undefeated this season: sophomore Cadet Nathaniel Summers, freshman Cadet Luis Sass-Zaragoza and junior team captain Cadet Deonte Kerns, each boasting a 6-0 record. Sophomore Cadet Tyller Isbell is also off to a strong start at 3-0.

Great work, cadets!
