Encourage your boys to read! Summer Reading List for Middle School and High School

F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of The Great Gatsby and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, once said, “That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”

In line with this sentiment, we have compiled a suggested reading list for your sons to enjoy over the summer. Please click the link below to review our recommendations.

It's important for teenagers, especially boys, to keep reading during the summer months. There is a direct correlation between reading for pleasure and an increase in vocabulary. Additionally, reading stimulates the mind and the imagination, keeping both active through the long weeks of June and July.

Encourage your sons to read during the summer, even if it's just for 15 minutes a day.

For young men in middle school, continue fostering their love for reading, whether through graphic novels, teenage fiction, or poetry.

Consider having high schoolers read the news daily to stay updated on global affairs. They might also explore literature related to their anticipated college subjects or any nonfiction that educates, intrigues, and builds awareness of the world.

You can also explore whether your local library has a summer reading program or suggest a trip to the local bookstore for additional encouragement and inspiration. Gently coax your boys to read, think, and inwardly digest the written word.

A simple but effective way to keep their minds sharp and their imaginations growing is to read. Thank you for your partnership in their education!
