An outstanding season and MMA wrestling career ended with a trip to the MSHSAA state competition for Cadet Ryan Miles, a high school senior from Dallas, Texas. Miles finished his MMA wrestling career with 104 wins after earning his first career state victory. He went one and two at the Missouri State High School Activities Association's state wrestling tournament in Columbia, Missouri, on February 26, 2025.
MMA head wrestling coach Levi Iman shared this perspective about Miles, a three-time team captain who earned 30+ wins in both his junior and senior years:
“I met Cadet Miles five years ago when he first came to MMA. He was still in middle school and did not have much experience on the mat or as a leader. But looking back, it was clear he was born to be a wrestler.
It takes a certain type of person to not just be a wrestler but to enjoy it through the sweat, pain and losses. He has had a tough road filled with top-notch opponents, close matches and several upsets. Through it all, he keeps his pride in check and digs deep to push himself further. While he may get frustrated at a loss, he always comes back the next day looking to improve. Each loss represents a challenge that he will overcome in the next match.
While he doesn't like to be the center of attention, his work ethic and natural abilities draw him to it. Even as a sophomore, he could command the team’s attention and younger teammates looked to him for example.
As a coach, I could not ask for a better athlete. He has seen so much success and has been a huge asset in bringing our wrestling program up to the next step, all done with a quiet humbleness.”
