Maj James G. Poettker ’08 Awarded National Honors by Exercise Tiger Foundation

Missouri Military Academy (MMA) Deputy Commandant for Support, Security, and Transportation Maj James G. Poettker ’08, United States Marine Corps Reserve, was honored during the 27th Annual U.S. Exercise Tiger Foundation “Adopt A Warrior” Program in Columbia, Missouri. The MMA Color Guard represented the Academy and presented the colors during the event.

The United States Exercise Tiger Foundation (USTF) annually honors military personnel and veterans for exceptional service. Maj Poettker received his honors at the National Adopt A Warrior Banquet on Nov. 14 at the Columbia Country Club.

A 2008 graduate of MMA, Maj Poettker served 10 years on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps and continues to serve in the USMC Reserves. His distinguished service is reflected in his extensive list of awards and commendations, including two Navy Commendation Medals, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Presidential Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Humanitarian Assistance Medal, three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, and the Drill Instructor Ribbon.

The “Adopt A Warrior” program has recognized fewer than 400 exemplary warriors since 1998. Honorees, such as Maj Poettker, are recognized for their exceptional leadership, valor and dedicated service to our nation. This year’s Adopt a Warrior honorees also received public recognition during the University of Missouri Military Appreciation Game on Nov. 15.
