Missouri Military Academy (MMA) announces the appointment of COL Tom Pickle, USA (Ret), as the new commandant of cadets, effective Aug. 1, 2024. COL Pickle, who has been serving as MMA deputy commandant for residential life since April 2024, holds extensive leadership experience from his 32-year career in the United States Army. He succeeds Col. Rick Grabowski, who is retiring after eight years of distinguished service to the Academy.
A decorated combat veteran and a joint qualified officer, COL Pickle developed and demonstrated significant leadership, planning, program management, and talent management skills throughout his military career.
"COL Pickle's extensive experience in tactical, operational and strategic leadership across diverse and complex organizations equips him for success in this important MMA role," said MMA President Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret). "We thank Col. Grabowski for the care and dedication he has provided to our cadets during his tenure, and we look forward to a seamless transition in our commandant's division as COL Pickle assumes responsibility in this key leadership position."
As deputy commandant for residential life, COL Pickle oversaw the health, welfare, safety and security of all cadets, ensuring a high quality of life and a healthy living environment at MMA. He worked closely with cadets, their families, faculty and Academy staff, supporting the commandant's office by supervising company leadership advisors and developing leader and life skills training programs.
As commandant of cadets, COL Pickle will continue to ensure the highest standards of education, training and support for our cadets, guiding them to become responsible and ethical leaders and to reach their full potential.
COL Pickle is the son of MMA alumnus Tom Pickle Sr., Class of 1958.
Please join us in congratulating COL Pickle on his new appointment and in thanking Col. Grabowski for his remarkable service to Missouri Military Academy. Col. Grabowski's dedication and commitment have left an enduring legacy at MMA, and we are grateful for his contributions to the Academy.
