Missouri Military Academy (MMA) welcomed nearly 60 Cub Scouts and their families from across Missouri for the NOVA STEM Family Camp, held November 1-3, 2024. The weekend event inspired young minds through STEM-based activities and recreational adventures.
"The camp was more than just fun and recreation – it combined quality education with high engagement activities," said MMA Scoutmaster Eric Evertson. “We hope that our efforts not only benefit the community but also open doors of opportunity for these young students to consider attending our great Academy."
Families came to MMA on Friday night and set up their tents inside and outside the Fieldhouse, and more attendees came to MMA the following morning. The MMA Color Guard presented the colors during the opening ceremony.
On Saturday, Scouts of all ages participated in a full schedule of engaging activities, with MMA’s Scout Troop 1889 serving as chaperones.
The Lion and Tiger Cubs (ages 5–6) explored STEM concepts using the hands-on STEMFORMER Kit, which blended elements of a rover and a robot. The activity introduced foundational engineering concepts, including elasticity, wind-up mechanisms and gear systems.

Wolf and Bear Cub Scouts engaged in 1, 2, 3 GO, focusing on practical math applications such as calculating planetary weights and exploring basic cryptography.
Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts (ages 9–11) took on The Great Math Mystery, an interactive activity designed to strengthen problem-solving skills and encourage mathematical exploration.
Afternoon activities included archery, BB gun shooting, swimming, nature-based learning around the pond and a hike exploring fossils on the back campus. Scouts also participated in a short hike to meet advancement requirements for Webelos and Arrow of Light ranks.
