MMA Cadets Receive Music Awards for 2020-21 Academic Year

Congratulations to the following cadets for their achievements in music for the 2020-21 academic year.

Bryce Bowen – LTC Elmer R. Jackson Music Award

Given to cadets who have the most distinguished service to the music program. The award honors Elmer R. Jackson, a former MMA employee who served MMA for nearly 50 years. Jackson served as MMA’s band director from 1931-1950 and an admissions counselor from 1950-1978. 

Michael Machary-Pagan – COL Paul F. Cherches Memorial Award

Awarded to the cadet who is considered the most valuable band member through his dedication to the gift of music. The award honors Col. Paul Cherches, MMA’s director of music between 1950-1989.  

Victor Patino-Matos – Crain-Jorishie Jazz Musician Award

Awarded to the cadet who is best player in the MMA Jazz Band. The award honors Jeffrey Crain '76 and Jeffrey Jorishie '76, MMA alumni who were band company commander and drum major, respectively.  

Matthew Hamilton, Evan Schreyer and William Dunn – Streep Brothers Band Award

Awarded in recognition of their active participation in music performances and studies, and for their loyalty, punctuality and qualities of a good band member. The award honors Foster Streep ’30, Byron Streep ’29 and Dale E. Streep ’41.  

Bradford Wright – Sousa Award for Outstanding Contribution to Band  

Awarded to a cadet who has been a pinnacle of achievement in a high school band. The award honors John Sousa, also known as "The March King," an American composer and conductor known primarily for American military marches.  

Parker Woodruff – String Award

Awarded annually to a cadet who best shows commitment and dedication to the String Program.  

Kruze Hagan – Middle School Band Award

Jancarlo Barajas – First Outstanding Chorister

Dhalil Belko – Outstanding Chorister

Missouri Military Academy COL Tom Pickle

Colonel Tom Pickle, USA (Ret), has joined the staff of Missouri Military Academy (MMA) as the deputy commandant for residential life. Pickle comes to the private, college preparatory, all-boys military boarding school after a 32-year career in the United States Army. Throughout his career, he has exhibited exceptional leadership, planning, program management, and talent management, making significant contributions to the military.

MMA Future Business Leaders Attend 2024 State Conference

Competitors from the Missouri Military Academy Future Business Leaders of America chapter joined attendees from nearly 400 chapters at the Missouri State Leadership Conference on April 14-16, 2024, in Springfield. Eleven MMA cadets qualified to compete at state during the district competition held in February. The MMA Color Guard presented the colors in front of more than 5,000 high school students at Great Southern Bank Arena.
