On February 24, 2021, cadet members of MMA’s Model United Nation (Model UN) Chapter were awarded a certificate for their participation in Model UN. See list of award recipients below.
In Model UN, cadets participate in UN simulations by role playing as delegates and mimicking UN committees. Through these simulations, they learn about diplomacy, international relations, current international issues and negotiation tactics. This kind of mimicry serves as more than an outstanding educational opportunity – it also helps cadets learn to see things from a different perspective – needing to balance their assigned country’s values and best interests with empathy and understanding for other delegate’s needs.
In practice, cadets research topics, formulate positions and write policy proposals that they then debate with their fellow delegates in the committee. At the end, delegates vote on written policies – called “draft resolutions” – with the goal of passing them with a majority vote. Learn more about MMA's Model UN here.
