Rain, wind or shine – MMA’s golf team proved to be considerable competition this season, averaging second-place finishes in tournaments. Furthermore, Cadet Oscar Lopez qualified to compete at the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) State Golf Championship, where he finished 28th out of 74 golfers.
“The first day of the state championship was constant rain and wind, but the second day was beautiful. Considering the circumstances, Lopez did really well,” MMA Golf Coach Anthony Yannielli said.
According to Yannielli, although the team lacked experience, they made up for it in hard work, perseverance and teamwork.
“I’m proud in the overall improvement of the whole team. We had a lot of golfers that did not have any experience, but every time they golfed, they improved,” he said. “The team’s greatest strength this season was teamwork. Although golf is more of an individual sport, team score matters. They were able to complement each other and we received better scores.”
