MMA Cadets Attend Global Celebration of Young People

On Sunday, Nov. 20, Cadets Elijah Canonico, Gabriel Canonico, Kamil Sanchez, Preston Vo, Alvero Gonzalez and Gorka-Aitor Yarte-Zertuche attended the Global Celebration of Young People at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia, Missouri. The 2022 theme was Viva Cristo Rey. Cadets listened to a talk by motivational speaker Brian Greenfield and had the opportunity to pray, sing and unite with the young church through their faith.

Greenfield’s motivational talk had a dynamic delivery, and he made connections for the youth that were practical and relatable. Cadet Gabriel Canonico said the opportunity was “very engaging and eye-opening,” and Cadet Gonzalez thought the talk was “focused and directed.” Other cadets' comments on the event included "a hint of reality" (Sanchez), "faith-driven and really fun" (Elijah Canonico), "heart-warming" (Yarte-Zertuche) and "good" (Vo).

MMA supports cadets of all faiths. On Sundays, cadets may attend a chosen place of worship, and the Academy transports them to and from their chosen local church. Vespers, a nondenominational service that focuses on self-reflection and personal growth, occurs on Sunday evenings on campus in Memorial Chapel on campus. During Vespers, cadets take time to reflect on their previous week, as well as mentally prepare themselves for the week ahead.
