MMA Brotherhood Supports Cadet Scholarships

MMA Brotherhood Supports Cadet Scholarships

At the Annual Awards Banquet during Homecoming on October 1, 2022, Missouri Military Academy (MMA) recognized the alumni, families, friends and staff who support MMA cadets through the 1889 Scholarship Fund. Since the fund’s inception in 2018, MMA has received $113,100 in support of the 1889 Scholarship Fund, helping make MMA education possible for deserving cadets in need.

This Homecoming, spurred on by Chris Gentry’s ’88 Homecoming 1889 Scholarship Challenge, the MMA brotherhood made a concerted effort to increase scholarship support at MMA. Twenty-two donors made a one-time donation that amounted to $17,145, and 26 new monthly pledges will raise an additional $6,293 over the next year.

Additionally, thanks to the alumni who met Gentry’s challenge, he fulfilled his pledge and donated $13,000 to the fund. The Alumni Association raised another $1,720 at the Farewell Brunch, and then unexpectedly stepped up to add another $6,000 in scholarship support.

Overall, this Homecoming raised a grand total of $44,158 for cadet scholarships.

“Financial aid support enables us to provide a life-changing education to cadets who wouldn’t be able to attend MMA without help. Programs like the 1889 Scholarship Fund are essential to support families who seek an MMA education for their sons,” said Vice President for Institutional Advancement Rob Silbaugh. “We are immensely thankful to those who commit their support for MMA cadets and give each month.”

Become an 1889 Scholarship Supporter

With a recurring gift of $18.89 each month (or $226.68 each year), 1889 Scholarship supporters provide ongoing gifts to support cadet education. Currently, more than 65% of MMA cadets receive financial aid to attend the Academy.

MMA’s goal is to add $500,000 each year to scholarship support through the 1889 Scholarship Fund. With 2,206 annual contributors — a mere fraction of our 9,000-plus legion of alumni – MMA could enroll more deserving young men and increase the size of the corps by 25 to 35 cadets.
