Missouri Military Academy’s golf team went undefeated in the 1982 regular season, garnering a 13-0-1 record. For the team’s accomplishments and the example those team members continue to be, the 1982 golf team is inducted into the 2024 Missouri Military Academy Athletic Hall of Fame.
The team’s near-perfect performance was not without some close calls along the way. The Colonels jumped out to seven straight wins that season before the first tight score came in a home quad meet against Centralia, Mark Twain and Monroe City. A four-foot downhill birdie putt by freshman Brad Robbins on the par 5 No.9 hole put him on the medal stand with a 39 and helped MMA to a two-stroke win. Cross-town rival Mexico then tied MMA two days before the Tri-Military meet. At the Tri-Military, the Colonels again snatched a pressure victory, beating Wentworth by two for the military crown. MMA came within three strokes of qualifying for state at the district tournament in Kirksville, where the team finished third in the 14-team field. Cadet Carlos Escalante finished third in district with an individual score of 79. The undefeated year ensured there would be another group of white letter sweaters on the MMA campus.
The team, coached by Major Ray Campbell, included Nick Constanzo, Juan Carlos Garcia, Paul Petit, Carlos Escalante, Todd Creviston, Brad Robbins, and Ed Trespalacios. It is our honor to recognize the team’s accomplishments with induction into the MMA Hall of Fame.
