Missouri Military Academy Tennis Team Claims Second Consecutive Victory at Hannibal Tournament

On April 13, 2024, the Missouri Military Academy tennis team secured their second consecutive victory at the Hannibal tournament. Photos were taken by Cadet Zijie Zhou.

"As the champions from last year, we were very excited to compete again and attempt to defend our title,” says Coach Brad Smith. “I am incredibly proud of this team for their accomplishment at this tournament and for their success this year.”

The tournament structure pits players from each team against their counterparts in corresponding brackets, such as #1 facing #1 and #2 facing #2.

Four schools participated in the tournament — MMA, Hannibal, Troy Buchanan and Quincy Notre-Dame.

MMA demonstrated success from the outset, with five out of six singles players securing wins in the initial round. Cadets Francisco Jose De La Maza (#1), Jose Anguiano (#3), Henry Scribner (#4) and Gabriel Iglesias (#6) emerged victorious in the second round. In the final round, Cadets De La Maza, Samuel Way, Anguiano, Scribner and Iglesias, alongside the doubles duo of Cadets Vick Chen and Bryce McIlwain, celebrated triumphs on the court.

• #5. Dempsey (0-3) - fourth place (had to forfeit during the second match due to sickness) 
• #6. Cadet Iglesias (3-0) - first place
