Missouri Military Academy Celebrates 25th Anniversary of the Class of 1999

As Missouri Military Academy (MMA) gears up for Homecoming, we're excited to honor the 25th anniversary of the Class of 1999. Alumni, students and staff are invited to take a walk down memory lane and relive some highlights of the late '90s at MMA. A Look Back at 1999

The 1998 Homecoming marked a memorable year, drawing a record number of 275 alumni back to campus. That year, a new Homecoming feature called “The Alumni Exchange” was introduced, allowing senior class members to engage in a panel discussion with three successful alumni: Jeff Crain ’78, Curt Kirtley ’74 and Chris Yoest ’77.

In February 1999, MMA cadets showcased their athletic talents during the MMA Olympics. The same year, MMA celebrated its 110th commencement ceremony on May 28. Cadet James Busalacki, selected as the valedictorian of the Class of 1999, received a standing ovation from both his peers and faculty when he was announced as the top graduate.

The Class of 1999 was also notable for its achievements in academics and athletics. In soccer, MMA’s cadet-athletes dominated the field, outscoring their opponents 69-2 in the season's first nine games. The Academy also offered an impressive array of 21 math courses, taught by seven dedicated faculty members: Maj. Joe Ableman, Lt. Col. Ray Campbell, Lt. Col. Hub Leverett, Lt. Rick Radford, Mrs. Peggy Reynard, Mrs. Beth Smith and Lt. Col. David.

In addition to their academic and athletic achievements, MMA cadets excelled in other areas. Senior Cadet Jerry Wadley won the 1999 individual spelling contest by correctly spelling the word “bubonic." The top eight spellers from each company faced off in the competition, with Charlie Company taking the top spot.
