Cadet Melick Breaks 42-Year-Old MMA Swimming Record

On October 18, 2021, Cadet Anthony Melick broke his second swimming record during his tenure at MMA. Completing the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:29:39, he broke the previous MMA record, set by Jim Calhoun in 1979 with a time of 2:29:70.

In 2020, Melick broke the MMA record for the 100-meter backstroke. His time was 1:08:30, beating previous record-holder Randal Adler’s time of 1:08:90, set in 1977.

A junior from Overland Park, Kansas, Melick is the son of Yelena and Robert Melick.

Missouri Military Academy eighth grade Cadet Pittman receives writing award

Two eighth-grade MMA cadets were chosen to compete in the Missouri State High School Activities Association Middle-Level Sportsmanship and Citizenship Essay contest. Judges selected the top two MMA essays, written by Cadets Easton Nance and Harrison Pittman, to continue in higher rounds of judging. Congratulations to both cadets for their achievement, with a special congratulations to Pittman, whose essay was chosen as a district winner.
