Scholarship Opportunity for Engineering Summer Camp Available to MMA Cadets

Thanks to a scholarship anonymously supported by an alumnus, cadets ages 15-18 interested in the STEM field will have the opportunity to attend the Jackling Introduction to Engineering camp at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) for free. Last year, Cadets Blake Krull ’25 and Josiah Emminger ’27 earned scholarships to attend the camp.

Through the Jackling Introduction to Engineering camp, cadets will be introduced to a variety of engineering fields with demonstrations and activities related to each discipline. Attendees will learn about what engineers do, the tools they use and how the various engineering fields affect everyday life. Afternoon activities will include interactive workshops and problems such as software development, aerospace testing and problem-solving, exploration of state-of-the-art engineering materials breakthroughs and the process of product development and testing.

Registration for Jackling Institute Introduction to Engineering Summer Camps is open. This year's dates are:

  • Session I: June 8 - 12, 2025
  • Session II: June 22 - 26, 2025
  • Session III: July 6 - 10, 2025

Cadets interested in applying for the scholarship should see Maj. Mike Pemberton, science department chair, in Barnard Hall room 106 for an application. They can also email him at michael.pemberton@missourimilitaryacademy.com. The deadline to apply is 10 March 2025.

To be eligible, cadets must ...

  • be in good standing at MMA
  • be ages 15-18
  • complete and submit the MMA application form
  • submit a typed essay (250-500 words) describing their interest in science, math, engineering and/or medicine and a desire to attend the camp.

Cumulative GPA will also be considered with the application.

Through our admissions agreement with Missouri S&T, even if a cadet does not receive a full camp scholarship from the donor, they can receive camp scholarships for all of Missouri S&T summer camps by identifying themselves as an MMA cadet on their Jackling Institute Introduction to Engineering summer camp application.

Missouri S&T also partners with MMA to provide cadets with ROTC scholarships and college credit for Project Lead the Way (PLTW) classes, further empowering cadets to enter the STEM field.
