MMA Welcomes New Director of College and Career Counseling

Missouri Military Academy Director for College and Career Placement Cameo Wells

Missouri Military Academy (MMA) announces that Cameo Wells has been hired as the director of college and career counseling. Wells comes to the private, college preparatory, all-boys military boarding school from Norwich University, where she served as the associate director of admissions. She officially started her position on July 8, 2024, assuming the role following the retirement of Will Roundey.

“During my interview with Mrs. Wells, I was impressed with her knowledge of the college and scholarship application process and requirements and her desire to help cadets succeed,” says MMA President Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret). “Her experience working with college admissions will bring valuable insight to our cadets and is an additional asset for the Academy.”

As the director of college and career counseling, Wells will be responsible for helping all cadets achieve college acceptance, a requirement to earn their MMA diplomas, and supporting cadets in their pursuit of college scholarships, an effort that saw the Class of 2024 earn more than $4.9 million. She will prepare cadets for postsecondary success using a comprehensive school counseling program in line with the best practices of the American School Counselor Association and the National Association of Independent Schools. Her responsibilities include supporting cadets through the college application process, partnering with parents, and staying current on college admissions trends.

She will coordinate college furloughs, work-based learning opportunities and scholarship searches and collaborate with the Registrar on data management using software like Education Edge and Naviance. Additionally, she will provide professional development on college applications, oversee faculty recommendations, maintain a college counseling center, establish connections with college representatives and coordinate college essay workshops with the English Department.

“I am committed to helping your cadet explore various career paths, identify interests and set clear objectives for the future,” Wells says. “I will provide guidance and support to help each cadet achieve his college and career goals.”

Wells holds a Bachelor of Science in communications from Norwich University, a Master of Art in public relations from Full Sail University and a Master of Science in digital marketing from Full Sail University. Prior to MMA, Wells worked as the associate director of admissions at Norwich University. She also holds experience as a communications consultant for the Vermont Ravens, a marketing coordinator for Stoweflake Resort & Spa and a district executive for the Green Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Wells moved from Vermont to Missouri with her husband, son, husky (Loki), pug (Rosie) and orange cat (Bear) so her son, Eli, could attend MMA. Eli will start eighth grade at MMA this fall.

“We are excited to experience this part of the country and meet new people,” Wells says.

Outside of her career, Wells enjoys catching up on crime shows, finding new things to bake and spending quality time with her family on adventurous outings.
