Colonels Wrestling Wins South Callaway Team Duel, 17 January 2023

The Missouri Military Academy Colonels wrestling team traveled to South Callaway for a team duel on Tuesday, Jan. 17. After several hard-fought matches, the Colonels beat South Callaway with a final score of MMA 57, South Callaway 24. 

The Colonels won the first six weight classes of the evening. The posting wins were by Cadet Mathew Pfiefer at 106, Cadet Deonte Kerns at 113, Cadet Dallas Grantz at 120, Cadet Sam Stevens at 126, Cadet Ryan Miles at 132 and Cadet Alex Snyder at 138.  

Cadet Mason Brooks was unable to win his varsity debut at 144, but Cadet Bryson Powell won the next match with a decision at 150. 

State qualifier Cadet Gabe Canonico lost at 157, but the Colonels won the next two matches with Cadet Blake Krull at 165 and Cadet Evan Corley at 175. MMA was open at 190, and Cadet Landon Meyer posted a win at 215. Cadet Ben Huynh finished the evening with a win by fall at 285.

Exhibition matches saw Cadet Corley and Cadet Meyer again, but neither secured a win.

MMA will soon compete at the varsity conference tournament in Lone Jack on Saturday, Jan. 21.
