Colonels Rifle Team Brings Home 6 First-Place Finishes From Tennessee

The Colonels Rifle Team traveled to Dyersburg, Tennessee for their first shoulder-to-shoulder experience of the 2022-23 season on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Taking a mix of rookie and veteran competitors, the match was an opportunity for younger cadets to experience the pressures of shooting against others at the opposing team’s rifle range. The Colonels did not disappoint.  Of the 11 cadets who competed in Tennessee, only three were veterans — two seniors and one junior. The rookies in attendance included two 8th graders, one freshman, two sophomores, two juniors, and one senior.

The Colonels took first place for both the A team and B team competition. Members on the Colonels first place A team included Cadets Marco Afane, Xiang Chen (rookie), Samuel Way, and Blake Morais. Members on the Colonels first place B team included Cadets Eliseo Buch, John Trippe, Brayden Phelps, and Ernesto De La Maza — all rookies.

The Colonels also earned four individual trophies for top overall performances: #1 overall, Cadet Afane; #1 Prone, Chen; #1 Standing, Cadet Afane; and #1 Kneeling, Cadet Chen.

Also of note, Cadet Kamil Sanchez De Ovando Pérez (8th grade, rookie) also shot his personal record of 246.

Special thanks to Rick and Tonya Dehlinger for driving and chaperoning, and Mary Parker, Cadet Trippe's mother, who drove 5 hours with her daughter to join us to support the team as well.
