Missouri Military Academy has announced the addition of Lawrence W.K. Casselle and Andres Hoffmann to the school’s Board of Trustees. Casselle, an Army veteran and longtime member of the U.S. foreign service, is a 1993 graduate of the Academy. Hoffmann, who graduated in 1989 as a member of the Academy’s centennial class, is an attorney, financial adviser and notary official in México City.
As trustees, Casselle and Hoffmann will help provide strategic oversight and support to MMA, one of the nation’s top college preparatory military boarding schools. An all-male school, MMA provides residential and day school education for middle and high school (grades 7-12, plus post-grad year).

Recently retired in 2025, Casselle joined the State Department as a special agent for the Diplomatic Security Service in 2003 after serving as an infantry officer in the Army. He was promoted into the Senior Foreign Service in 2024. Over the course of his career, he took on assignments in the State Department’s operations center, as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s protective detail and branch chief for Overseas Protective Operations with responsibility for the entire Western Hemisphere. He also served as the deputy director for counterintelligence at the Bureau of Intelligence and Research.
Overseas, Casselle served at U.S. embassies in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Kabul, Afghanistan; Baghdad, Iraq; and as the senior regional security officer, acting deputy chief of mission and chargé d’affaires at the U.S. embassy in Belmopan, Belize. While serving in Belize, Casselle’s office was responsible for the location, capture and repatriation of more than 30 international fugitives to the United States.
Originally from Las Vegas, Casselle spent three years at MMA where he rose to the rank of cadet captain and served as Delta Company commander and battalion logistics officer. He played football, basketball and track, serving as captain of the track team his senior year. Casselle also served in Honor Guard and Cadet Ambassadors, was class treasurer and worked on the Taps yearbook staff. In his sophomore year, MMA honored him with the Richard Benton Hall Memorial Award for Most Gentlemanly Cadet. An active member of the MMA Alumni Association, he returned to campus in 2022 to deliver the keynote address at MMA’s 133rd Commencement.
Casselle holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Hampton University in Virginia and a master’s degree in national security strategy and resources from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. He recently completed his memoirs, Dark Agent, scheduled for release this year.
Andres Hoffmann ʼ89
A native citizen of México, Hoffmann has also lived in Missouri and Texas. In México, he is one of only 204 attorneys in the country licensed to bear the seal of the United Mexican States as a notario publico, authenticating legal documents and title transfers, calculating capital gains taxes and ratifying real estate transactions. He serves as legal adviser to México’s Defense Ministry and secretary of defense, as well as México’s federal and state government, the Attorney General’s Office and the government’s judicial branch. He holds academic appointments as a law professor at Ibero-American University, Panamerican University, Anáhuac University Mexico and the College of Notaries of Mexico.
In the private sector, Hoffmann advises financial institutions such as Citibanamex, Santander and Scotiabank. He also serves as a legal and financial consultant to companies in the Swiss banking industry. In addition, he has provided pro bono services for thousands of vulnerable people in México.
In America, Hoffmann has development projects in Houston, Texas, and is in the process of establishing a local title company there.
Originally from México City, Hoffmann attended MMA from 1988 to 1989 as a member of Echo Company. Active in track, wrestling, soccer and M Club, he served in Honor Guard and earned Delta Phi and academic fourragere honors.
Hoffmann holds a law degree from Panamerican University. He is vice president of the National Academy of Notarial Law and serves as treasurer of the Institute for the Development of Higher Studies. A member of the International Arbitration Association, he founded the organization’s alumni association.
