Cadet Beltran Gonzalez Wins State Title in 400m at Middle School Championships

Missouri Military Academy (MMA) Cadet Jesus Beltran Gonzalez earned the title of state champion in the 400-meter run at the Missouri state middle school track and field championships, held Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. Cadet Beltran Gonzalez, an 8th grader from St. Michael, Minnesota, secured first place with a time of 55.01 seconds, setting a new state middle school record for the event. 

Cadet Beltran Gonzalez also competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing 9th in Class 3/4 with a time of 12.35 seconds, beating his previous school record of 12.38.

  • 100m Hurdles: Cadet Creed Martin ’30 (Prosper, Texas) – 20.03 (28th, Class 3/4)
  • 800m: Cadet Ethan Gachuhi ’28 (Olathe, Kansas) – 2:38.44 (27th, Class 3/4); improved his previous school record of 2:38.85
  • 4x100m Relay: Cadet Bryan O'Dwyer-Moore ’29 (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma), Cadet Martin, Cadet Gachuhi and Cadet Beltran Gonzalez – 53.82 (17th, Class 3/4)

Missouri Military Academy Interim Commandant of Cadets Major Wayne Welander stands in his military uniform against a backdrop of the American and MMA flags.

Missouri Military Academy has designated MAJ Wayne Welander, USA (Ret), to serve as interim commandant of cadets at the college preparatory military boarding school. Currently the senior Army instructor, Welander assumes the commandant’s duties of overseeing residential life, fostering self-discipline, personal responsibility and accountability with the Academy’s middle and high school cadets, guiding them in taking command of their lives.
