AP Green Foundation Supports Memorial Chapel Restoration at Historic Missouri Military Academy

The Allen P. and Josephine B. Green Foundation recently awarded a $19,000 grant to Missouri Military Academy to restore the steeple atop the Memorial Chapel and Albright Assembly Hall. The chapel has been an icon on MMA’s historic campus in Mexico, Missouri since 1961.

The Academy will complete steeple repairs funded by the A.P. Green Foundation grant this summer. After a half-century of use and the effects of weather took a toll on Memorial Chapel, renovations began in 2014 with the goal to revive and enhance the space. Fundraising continues to enable the Academy to restore and maintain the chapel.

Originally constructed as a memorial to honor alumni, faculty and staff killed in action during war, the chapel now also memorializes those alumni, faculty and staff who died in the War on Terror and first responders who lost their lives in dedicated service to others.

“The chapel reflects our 130-year history in mid-Missouri and honors the sacrifices that so many have made in dedicated service to our country and to others,” said Missouri Military Academy President Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret). “We are grateful for the continued support from the A.P. Green Foundation to help preserve the steeple atop this historic building.”

Memorial Chapel is used throughout the academic year for the Academy’s weekly Vespers (spiritual) services and school assemblies. Available for rent to the public, the chapel is also a popular spot for weddings.

The Allen P. and Josephine B. Green Foundation is a private foundation focused on improving the quality of life in Missouri. The foundation has previously supported Memorial Chapel renovations with a grant of $49,000.
