Greetings, my fellow MMA brothers,
I am very excited to serve as the current MMA Alumni Association Board of Directors (BOD) president. For those of you who may not know me, I am Jason Falbo-Gwinn, MMA Class of 1988. My stepfather, David B. Gwinn, Class of 1956, was a previous BOD president, and I am honored and excited to serve the brotherhood in this role.
My MMA career commenced in 1984-85 in the Delta Company, The Alamo, and culminated in 1987-88 in the Alpha Company, The Green Wave. As a freshman, I was molded by great role models and leaders such as my first company commander, Capt. Maurice Johnson ’85, Col. Charles R. Stribling III ’44, Maj. Robert P. Samples ’55, Col. Mortensen, Capt. Joe Ableman, Karen Jones (Spangler) and many other faculty and “Old Boys.”
As a sophomore, I was honored to be a part of the USA Color Guard Unit, which won the state color guard competition that year, commanded by John Treadway ’87. My duty and honor were to carry the “Exemplary Private School” flag designated by the Department of Education, which was retired from the Color Guard the following year.
As a junior, I moved to Alpha Company and was eventually promoted to Alpha Company first sergeant by my company commander, Capt. Rafael Correa ’87. On the Final Promotion Board, I was designated Alpha Company 1st platoon leader for my senior year and finished the year as Alpha Company executive officer.
I have been working for Hyalogic, a supplement and skin care manufacturer, for 15 years. My wife, Barbara, and I have four sons, three daughters-in-law and 11 grandchildren. My home base is Blue Springs, Missouri. I have been very blessed in my professional and personal life, knowing the foundation was forged and set during my time at MMA.
I share a bit of my story and journey with you in hopes that it will bring back fond memories of time spent with your fellow brothers. It is this time that was such an important part of our day-to-day activities and the overall esprit de corps that we all experienced.
Our Alumni Board of Directors continues to work diligently on several fronts. With Homecoming just around the corner, Sept. 27-29, our MMA family will celebrate and commemorate 135 years of helping young men fulfill their potential. Let’s help honor MMA’s past and support its future by helping us raise $135,000. Please click here to learn more about or donate to the 135 Years Strong Challenge.
Our Homecoming Committee is meeting and working hard to get the final touches in place. I have been attending Homecoming for the last 12 years and must tell you that the time spent on campus and back in the good ol’ 65265 with our brethren is fantastic and fun. We have also welcomed our Kemper and Wentworth brothers and sisters to join us on campus for Homecoming over the past two years with great turnout and support. We invite you to come back and join us for the festivities.
Several MMA alumni and an anonymous Wentworth alumnus have donated funds for our BOD to purchase a BBQ/smoker for MMA that will be used for alumni, cadet and Scout Troop 1889 events and other activities. We are very appreciative of those who have stepped up and donated. If you would like to help with this fundraising effort, please email us at mma.alumni.brotherhood@gmail.com.
We will also be unveiling the Col. Mortensen memorial plaque at Homecoming. If you would like to know more, please click here.
I look forward to seeing those of you who can make it back to the 65265 from Sept. 27-29 for Homecoming.
No Son Forget Thy Name!
