MMA Corps Earns Continued Honor Unit with Distinction at 2026 JPA Inspection

On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Missouri Military Academy Corps of Cadets, led by Cadet Battalion Commander River Punab-Mitchell ’26, demonstrated exceptional performance during the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Program for Accreditation (JPA) inspection, one of the year’s most important evaluations. Their efforts secured the Academy’s continued designation as an Honor Unit with Distinction, the highest recognition awarded to JROTC programs.

Conducted by the 3rd Brigade U.S. Army Cadet Command, with support from the University of Missouri Army ROTC Program, the JPA evaluates how effectively an institution meets Army JROTC standards.

“Our cadets represented themselves and the Academy with confidence and excellence,” said MMA President Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret). “The JPA assesses how well we uphold the standards of Army JROTC and, more importantly, how effectively our cadets live out the principles of integrity, discipline, personal responsibility, accountability, citizenship and leadership each day.”

While Army Cadet Command requires JPA inspections every three years, MMA elects to participate annually as part of its commitment to continuous improvement and excellence. This approach ensures that the Academy maintains the highest standards of its military educational model while providing cadets with ongoing opportunities to demonstrate growth and leadership.

A key component of the evaluation is the Service Learning Project (SLP). This academic year, the cadets’ SLP focused on creating Christmas cards for veterans. Through the project, they demonstrated citizenship, teamwork and social responsibility while applying decision-making, goal-setting and time management skills in a meaningful, real-world context.

The comprehensive evaluation also included a review of the Academy’s Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP), along with in-ranks inspections, barracks and uniform assessments, and knowledge testing aligned with each cadet’s Leadership Education Training (LET) level. The inspection culminated in a drill team and color guard demonstration, showcasing the precision, discipline and teamwork that define the corps.

This achievement reflects not only the preparation for a single day, but the daily habits, structure and accountability that shape cadet life at MMA. Through this process, cadets continue to develop the character, confidence and leadership skills that prepare them for success well beyond the Academy.
