2025 Tri-Military Shootout: Perspectives from MMA, KMS and WMA

2025 Tri-Military Shootout: Perspectives from MMA, KMS and WMA

Message from Jason Falbo-Gwinn MMA ’88

Saturday, October 4th, was a beautiful, crisp fall morning for the annual Missouri Tri-Military School Alliance Shootout at Lake Lotawana Sportsman's Club. This is always a great competition, vying for the bragging rights and trophy for the year. The camaraderie and stories that are shared are epic and legendary! But beyond the bragging rights, camaraderie, and epic stories, the bonds that are forged on this gridiron between the MMA, WMA, and KMS Alumni will last a lifetime.

MMA and Wentworth fielded teams this year, and also had several spectators come to show their love and support for their schools. Team MMA won the trophy for the first time, and we are honored that the trophy will be displayed on our campus until next year's shootout. We also raised $580, which has been donated to support the MMA Rifle Team.

If you would like more information, would like to shoot or come out and cheer on your Team at next year’s event, please reach out to the Team Captains.

Message from Bill Heltzel WMA ’77

Congratulations to the Alumni and Corps of Cadets of Missouri Military Academy, CHAMPIONS of the 2025 Missouri Tri-Military Alumni Shootout.

With the closure of Kemper Military School and College, Tri-Military competition among Missouri's military schools ceased, for a time. With the closure of Wentworth Military Academy and College in 2017, it was proposed that "Tri-Mil" be resurrected, this time as an alumni event. Wentworth and Kemper alumni had already competed in most years since 2007 in an alumni trapshooting tournament. With the addition of alumni participants from Missouri Military Academy, Missouri's sole surviving and thriving military school, "Tri-Mil" resumed. With enthusiastic participation by a large number of MMA alumni, it is my pleasure to report that dedication and perseverance have delivered the 2025 Missouri Tri-Military Alumni Championship to MMA!

The alumni of Wentworth will always be grateful to the Corps of Cadets of the Missouri Military Academy for their participation in the dedication of the WMA Museum in Lexington. It was my honor to personally greet every MMA cadet who entered the doors of our museum on dedication day. I admonished each of those men of MMA, as I admonish each of you today: NEVER let the colors of Missouri Military Academy be permanently cased. While Wentworth and Kemper both now have fine museums, it is our solemn prayer that it never be necessary for the alumni of MMA to ever open one of its own.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS MMA!

A spectator and athlete talk during the Tri-Military Shootout

Message from James R. Hallam KMS ’88

The Tri-Military Trap Shoot has become one of the most meaningful traditions that continue to unite Kemper, Wentworth, and Missouri Military Academy.  With both Kemper and Wentworth no longer operating as schools, this annual event serves as an important opportunity for our alumni to come together, celebrate our shared history, and support the cadets of MMA who proudly carry forward the spirit of military education.  Beyond the friendly competition, it’s about preserving our bond, honoring our traditions, and ensuring that the values we all learned as young cadets continue to inspire future generations.
