MMA Places in Top 5 Out of 75 Teams at JROTC Rifle Sectionals, Qualifies for Nationals

The Missouri Military Academy rifle team traveled to Camp Perry, Ohio to compete in the JROTC rifle sectionals, Feb. 10-12, 2022.  In the qualifier for this event, rifle teams from all service JROTC programs across the nation were invited to submit their postal targets on December 12. Those teams are reduced to the top rifle programs to go shoulder to shoulder in Camp Perry, Ohio; Anniston, Alabama; and Chandler, Arizona. Against the other 75 Army JROTC teams to qualify for the event, the MMA team placed 5th overall.

Thanks to their outstanding performance, the team has qualified to compete in the JROTC National Championship. They will return to Camp Perry, Ohio from 17-19 March for this final stage of the competition. The team is coached by Mike Shoemaker and CPT Joe Balvanz.

In addition, Cadet Lance Newland currently ranks in top 10 (9th) among all firers in the U.S. Army JROTC. Below, front, Cadets Afane, Newland and Garcia Garza. Back, Coach Shoemaker, Cadet Zinzer, and Coach Balvanz.
