New Members Inducted Into National Honors Society

Six Missouri Military Academy (MMA) juniors have been selected to be members of the National Honor Society (NHS) on October 20, 2020.

Cadets Rene Garcia, Yuheng Liu, Clayton Nelson, Lance Newland, Ashley Park and Alexander Thomas were selected by a faculty council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character. To stay eligible for membership in NHS, they must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.70 or higher. To signify their membership, they will receive a Membership Card and adorn a NHS pin.

They join seniors Fernando Afane, Nathaniel Balvanz, Dhalil Belko, Bryce Bowen and Sun Kit Tsui in the MMA chapter of NHS. Read about MMA’s NHS leadership here.

“National Honor Society members are expected to continue their outstanding work at the Academy and model MMA’s core values,” said Maj. Michael Pemberton, chapter adviser. “I am confident these cadets will continue to act with the same level of integrity and academic excellence that got them chosen.”

The MMA chapter of NHS has been active since 2005.

NHS ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. Chapters exist in more than 60 percent of U.S. high schools. Its sponsoring organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, has awarded millions of dollars in scholarships to senior members since 1945.
