2019 Final Assembly: Music & Athletic Awards

John Murphy, who received a gold performance rating by the University of Missouri this year, was recognized for his exceptional performance at the State Music Festival.

Chandler Bolinger and Sky Spotted Eagle Thunderchild Henio were given the LTC E.R. Jackson Music Award, in honor of Mr. Elmer Jackson, band director and admissions counselor, for their distinguished service to the music program.

Cadets Victor Patino, Derek Nguyen and Chandler Kreutziger were each awarded the Streep Brothers Band Awards for their studies, loyalty, active participation, good performance and attention to qualities that make good band members. The award was given in honor of the Streep brothers: Byron ʼ29, Foster ʼ30, and Dale ʼ41.

The String Award was given to Cole Miracle for his commitment and dedication to string instruments, and Zeth Colin was honored with the Col. Paul F. Cherches Memorial Award, in honor of former MMA music director, for being the most valuable band member.

Bruno Pozzani was given the High School Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Award for his excellent sportsmanship. Likewise, Gorka Aitor Yarte was awarded the Middle School Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Award. Yarte was also awarded the Maj. George L. Piper Middle School Outstanding Athlete Award, which honors former instructor, athletic director and commandant, Maj. George Piper, and recognizes Yarte’s commitment and performance in athletics.

Shama Lurie received the Joe D. Bailey Award for being the most dedicated varsity athlete. The award honors Joe Bailey, a former MMA faculty member, athletic director, dean, and coach. Lurie was also given the Alexander Ebersole Class of 2018 Selfless Service Award, reserved for cadets who exhibit courage and grit in the face of overwhelming adversity.

Sky Thunderchild Spotted Eagle Henio was given this year’s Outstanding MMA Athlete Award, recognizing Thunderchild’s overall dedication to sports, his team and sportsmanship.

Pedro Garduno was honored with the Red Ireland Trophy for a “Fighting Heart,” which honors James “Red” Ireland Jr. from the Class of 1941. The award recognizes loyalty, courage and heart.

Cameron Schafer was recognized for his selection as 2nd team all-district for the 2019 season by Northeast Missouri press writers and coaches.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association awarded Gunner Stugart a medal for his 7th place finish at the Missouri State Golf Championships.

MMA is proud to congratulate our cadets for their achievements. These awards are a testament to their hard work, sound moral character and dedication to themselves and the Academy.
