Information about your cadet's 1889 uniform

MMA Families,

As cadets get ready for the end of the year, they are required to prepare their dorm rooms and personal belongings for their departure. Please review the information below for packing and storage information available to cadets, plus the policy for returning the 1889 uniform jacket.

Turn in 1889 Uniform Jacket

This year was the first year cadets in the Academy Band, Fusileers Drill Team, and Color Guard were able to rent their 1889 uniform jacket (as opposed to purchasing it for a higher price). For that reason:

  • New cadets (those who first enrolled in the 2021-22 academic year) must return their rented 1889 uniform jacket prior to departing campus at the end of the year. Failure to return the jacket will result in a $150 non-return fee.
  • Old cadets (those who first enrolled prior to the 2021-22 academic year), who purchased their 1889 uniform jackets, have the option of returning their jacket for a $100 credit.

To avoid fees or receive the credit:

  • Your cadet needs to turn in his 1889 uniform jacket at the QM for inspection prior to departing campus (no later than May 21).
  • The QM or tailor staff will inspect the jacket. The jacket must be in good condition to avoid fees or to receive the credit.

If you have any questions, please contact Quartermaster Rick Dehlinger via email or at 573-581-1776 ext. 325.

Standard Departure Packing

To assist cadets with their end-of-year packing, MMA will provide every cadet with boxes and tape at the beginning of May to pack their personal belongings. For this service, a $10 fee will be assessed to your cadet's QM account for the packing supplies.

Summer Storage at MMA

MMA will provide storage for cadet uniforms and property over the summer months if requested by the cadet's family. Non-clothing items will be stored in facilities made available in each residence hall at no cost. Uniform items can be stored in secure facilities in Barnard Hall where they will be protected in a thermostatically controlled environment to help prevent mold and mildew. This service will require a $50 fee.

Clothing bags will be available for purchase through the cadet store on campus for $5 each. All boxes and clothing bags must be marked with the cadet's name and company on the outside.

Keepsakes such as rings, watches, special collections, gaming devices, or other articles of real or sentimental value should not be left in storage.

Shipping Home

If necessary, cadets can ship their personal belongings to a domestic address through the Quartermaster. To ship to an international address, families will need to contact Quartermaster Rick Dehlinger via email or at 573-581-1776 ext. 325 to make arrangements. Items shipped home must be prepaid to the shipper.

Remaining Property

Personal property left at school (that is not in summer storage) will be disposed of after three weeks unless we receive written instructions as to disposition. Cadets are responsible for the security of their personal items.

If you have any questions, please contact the commandant's office at 573-581-1776, ext. 327 or via email
