Rob McGrath is a musician from Yorkshire, England who has played in local youth orchestras and bands from an early age. He joined the Royal Marines Band in 1991 as a solo clarinetist. Whilst at the Royal Marines School of Music, McGrath won the Cassell Prize Silver Medal and was awarded the Clarinet Cup and Woodwind Player of the Year. He left the Royal Marines after 6 years and Studied BA Music (Jazz) at Middlesex University, London. McGrath played professionally as a saxophonist with notable bands such as The Joe Loss Orchestra, The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra (UK), Memphis Belle USO band as well as theater, jazz, and pop engagements. He started teaching in the UK in 2002 and gained Qualified Teacher Status whilst teaching music for a Local Education Authority.
McGrath came to MMA in April 2016, and his duties include Choral Director, Jazz Band as well as assisting the Band Director with High School Band. He currently rehearses and performs with the Columbia Jazz Orchestra in Missouri. McGrath enjoys Association Football (Soccer) and follows his teams Hull City AFC and England. He stepped into a new role as assistant Soccer coach at MMA in 2017.
