Varsity football has a long tradition at Missouri Military Academy, with roots that date to the late 19th century. Our team is unique in that it is manned by players from around the world, some of whom have come to the U.S. to play for the first time. The MMA brotherhood is most evident on the football field, where the team comes first.

Meet the Coaches

Mitchell Jenkins, Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator

Mitchell Jenkins began his coaching career in 2005 at North Callaway High School under Missouri Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Head Coach Mike Emmons. He coached the Tight Ends and Defensive Line during his tenure at North Callaway, as well as coaching boy’s basketball and serving as the youth camp director for boy’s basketball. Jenkins next spent two years as Head Junior High Football Coach at Montgomery County before returning to North Callaway during the 2010 season, serving as special team’s coordinator for three years. In 2012, he added junior varsity head coach to his list of duties, helping guide the JV to the second undefeated season in program history.

In Jenkins' first season at the helm at MMA, the Colonels were able to produce four wins, the most in a single season in at least the last 9 years.

“Our program philosophy is one that provides a family atmosphere that all are welcome and can contribute to the football family," Jenkins said. "Our goal is to make our players better students, football players, brothers, sons, and eventually if they chose, husbands and fathers.”

Jenkins has been a part of the coaching staff at Missouri Military Academy since 2013. He lives in Mexico with his wife Amanda, a third-grade teacher, his daughter Belle (Coach Mouse to the team), and dog Putter. The Jenkins family enjoys trips to Disney World and Mizzou football games.

Nate Lamberson, Defensive Coordinator

Nate Lamberson is in his second year of coaching at MMA. He played for Jenkins at North Callaway during the 2005-6 and 2006-7 seasons. A former college athlete, Lamberson has a strong background in the weight room and coaches the offensive and defensive lines.

"With Coach (Kevin) Bissmeyer’s promotion to athletic director, Coach Lamberson will be stepping in as our defensive coordinator this fall," Head Coach Jenkins said. "Coach Lamberson is a tireless worker, who brings his passion and fire to the defensive side of the ball. “

Lamberson lives in Auxvasse with his wife Kelsey.

Ryan Nowlin, Assistant Football Coach

Dr. Ryan Nowlin comes to the Missouri Military Academy from 20 years of service in public schools throughout the State of Missouri. He is the Assistant Football Coach and Head Wrestling Coach here at MMA. Dr. Nowlin has either played or coached football and wrestling for the majority of his career. He is a two-time All-State wrestler for Mexico High School and went on to wrestle for two years at the collegiate level before shoulder injuries ended his career. Dr. Nowlin has officiated youth, high school, and college wrestling across the country for over two decades and brings that experience to MMA. His contacts, friends, and experience in the wrestling community extend far beyond the walls of Missouri Military Academy. As a football coach, Dr. Nowlin has a combined win/loss record as an assistant of 59-5 with three trips to the Missouri Class 3A State Finals.

“Coach Nowlin’s experience provides us with a huge sounding board, as he is someone who’s seen it all and done it all in football,” Head Coach Jenkins said.

Nowlin lives in Mexico with his wife Christy and three children.
