MSHSAA District Round 1
Mitchell Jenkins began his coaching career in 2005 at North Callaway High School under Missouri Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Head Coach Mike Emmons. He coached the Tight Ends and Defensive Line during his tenure at North Callaway, as well as coaching boy’s basketball and serving as the youth camp director for boy’s basketball. Jenkins next spent two years as Head Junior High Football Coach at Montgomery County before returning to North Callaway during the 2010 season, serving as special team’s coordinator for three years. In 2012, he added junior varsity head coach to his list of duties, helping guide the JV to the second undefeated season in program history.
In Jenkins' first season at the helm at MMA, the Colonels were able to produce four wins, the most in a single season in at least the last 9 years. “Our program philosophy is one that provides a family atmosphere that all are welcome and can contribute to the football family," Jenkins said. "Our goal is to make our players better students, football players, brothers, sons, and eventually if they chose, husbands and fathers.”
Ben Burnett will begin his first full year as a teacher and coach at MMA after finishing up the 2018-19 school year as a long-term substitute in the business department this past Spring. Coach Burnett comes to the Academy as the former head football coach of the Clopton-Elsberry High School Indian Hawks (a co-op team) in which his teams combined record was 13-7 including two victories over your MMA Colonels. A former college athlete, Burnett has a strong background in the weight room and coaches the offensive and defensive lines. Prior to assuming the head coach title at Clopton, Coach Burnett was an assistant coach in the Fort Zumwalt High School system for eight seasons.
Colonel Head Coach Mitchell Jenkins said, "Coach Burnett's tremendous experience as both a head and assistant coach are very beneficial to not only the coaching staff but to the players as well. We are excited for his wife and daughter to join the Colonel family."
