MMA Athletics

Pursuing Victory With Honor...

The MMA Athletics program is founded on the same values that MMA works under, with an emphasis on personal character and leadership on the field and off the field. Daily physical activity is crucial to a young man's positive development, so we provide a wide range of varsity sports and non-competitive and competitive intramural activities.

I am truly honored and humbled to serve our cadets as the Director of Athletics for the Missouri Military Academy.  MMA has a rich tradition of athletic excellence dating back to its origins in 1889.  Athletics, in general, have always proven to be a useful tool to teach character, honesty, sportsmanship, and how to work together as a team.  All of which prove to be very useful assets as cadets further their careers on the athletic field, classroom, job-site, battle field, or life in general.

I am a firm believer that competitive athletics helps to teach boys how to mature into a man.  While I am a very competitive individual who doesn’t like to lose, I believe that an athlete can learn much more from a loss than from a win.  At Missouri Military Academy, we work very hard to be successful in every endeavor that we participate in.  But how do we truly measure success?

I am of the opinion, that success in life isn’t measured by the score on the scoreboard, or how much money or belongings you have.  Instead, success in life is measured upon how well you have learned to handle and overcome adversity.  Parents will agree that adversity comes at us as we get older from every different direction.  I am proud of the fact that our cadets are learning how to overcome that adversity.  Because learning how to deal with and overcome adversity is what will truly make a cadet at Missouri Military Academy successful as a cadet today and as a man of the world tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ryan E. Nowlin
