Senior Residential Faculty Officer
When Michael Koontz heads to work, he tells people he is "off to look after my other 200+ sons." He believes that he and the other Mentors are the "Dads" of the barracks: the voice of reason, the disciplinarian and the shoulder to cry on. Koontz is a Kansas City native, a KC Royals fan, and has three children of his own. He and his wife, Sharon, live close to campus. Sharon's father, COL Robert Piper, worked at MMA for over 30 years as Commandant of the Junior School. Koontz enjoys helping renovate the upper levels of Sharon's business, Color Me Blue. His greatest nemesis is fried cheese.
