B.A., Tufts University, International Relations & Chinese Language and Literature
Leah Averitt was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated from her high school as valedictorian. Upon graduation from high school, she matriculated at Tufts University to study International Relations and Chinese. After college, she began her career as a Research Fellow at the Naval War College advising graduate students on their research projects. At the Naval War College, Averitt was also a member of the Strategic Research Department and the China Maritime Studies Institute. She was responsible for conducting research in Chinese on China’s maritime development, specifically China’s hospital ships and military medical capabilities. Averitt also assisted other faculty members with their research on China and managed the Chinese Language Library.
Upon completing her service to her country, she began her second career as an instructor of English as a Second Language (ESL). Averitt has five years of experience teaching ESL to international middle and high school students studying abroad in the United States. She is very excited to come to the Missouri Military Academy to continue her career as an ESL instructor!
Averitt has put together many high-level events with members from academia, the military, the defense department, senators, and congressmen in attendance. In her free time she likes to visit art museums and view books about visual art, especially abstract art.
