Justin Carmickle was born and raised in Indiana. He studied English and Comparative Literature at Indiana University-Bloomington campus, earned an M.F.A. in creative writing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and in 2019 will complete his Ph.D. in English at The University of Southern Mississippi. At USM Carmickle's focus was on contemporary literature such as queer fiction and drama, the memoir, and children's literature. Authors of interest include Andrew Holleran, Richard Yates, and Alice Munro. His editing experience includes the literary journals Blackbird and Mississippi Review. In his free time Carmickle enjoys collecting vinyl, writing, and graphic novels. His writing appears in various publications, and he is at work on a collection of short stories.
