Missouri Military Academy will be the host of the 2018 National Military School Band and Choir Festival, which will bring 130 musicians and music faculty to Mexico, Missouri from military colleges and prep schools across the United States. Nine institutions will be represented. This is the first time MMA has hosted the annual festival.
The event will include clinical instruction from band and choir directors, along with an audition process in which musicians will compete for chairs in the festival band. A clinic for drum majors will be conducted by guest instructor Mike Bayes, drum major for the U.S. Navy band. MMA’s director of fine arts, WO2 Freddie Lomas, a retired bandmaster from Her Majesty’s Royal Band Service, along with MMA choir director and fellow Royal Marines bandmaster WO Rob McGrath, will be among the band directors providing instruction and direction during the weekend.
On Sunday, February 25, a public concert of all participating musicians and chorus members will take place at Missouri Military Academy at 2:00 p.m. The event, called “1918,” will feature music that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. An art show featuring World War I-themed works of art created by MMA cadets will be on display during the show. The concert will be held in the Centennial Gymtorium.
MMA encourages the community to come out to see these outstanding musicians perform in this unique setting. The concert promises to be an impressive and moving performance.
