MMA to Dedicate Major General Robert M. Flanagan Scholarship

Missouri Military Academy’s Maroon & Gold Event has become known for offering an evening of good food, entertainment by cadets, and energetic auctions and raffles to raise funds for MMA scholarships and other programs.
The introduction of the newest recipient of the Gen. Clifton B. Cates “I Will Hold” Award for Leadership is also a focal point of the night’s festivities.
In addition to the fun and more serious components of this year’s program, MMA will honor its retired president Major General Robert M. Flanagan, USMC (Ret.)with an endowed scholarship in his name, and will introduce the first recipient of the new and prestigious financial award. MajGen Flanagan will be present for the program and introduction of the new scholarship.

Major General Robert M. Flanagan was MMA’s ninth president, serving from 2007 to 2012.
During his tenure, MajGen Flanagan led MMA to:
• Refocus programs toward academic achievement
• Establish the first community service requirements for cadets
• Increase opportunities for cadet foreign travel experiences
• Remodel many of the existing campus facilities, including the construction of Barnard Hall and the reconstruction of Stribling Hall.

The MajGen Robert M. Flanagan Endowed Scholarship will be awarded annually to a freshman or sophomore cadet who shows potential for academic achievement and demonstrates financial need to achieve his educational goals. Initial funding for the endowment has been provided by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Bisanz in honor of MajGen Flanagan’s guidance for their son, Andrew ’08, and by the Flanagan family.
